What does “patented salt” mean?

What is patented when salt is described as “patented”? The patents we introduce concern equipment and methods for making salt. We do not use the term to mean that the effects of eating the product, or its taste, have been certified.

What does “patented salt” mean?

The technology for making salt, rather than the salt itself

Our company history lists nine patents: seven in Korea and one each in Japan and China. They cover equipment and methods for obtaining salt from seawater, concentrated seawater and lava seawater, as well as a method for making liquid salt.

For example, Patent No. 10-1352754 is titled “용암해수로부터 미네랄소금을 제조하는 장치 및 방법” (equipment and method for producing mineral salt from lava seawater), and No. 10-2873690 is titled “액상소금제조방법” (method for producing liquid salt). Each patent relating to salt has its own scope and number.

Patents and certifications answer different questions

Having a patent does not establish a product’s mineral content or safety. To find out what the product contains and in what amounts, you need its label and test data.

We hold reports for tests on general bacteria and E. coli, microplastics, and heavy metals. We also hold Korean documents recognizing our in-house research institute and confirming our venture enterprise status. We have an ISO 22000 certificate as well. In 2020, our company was certified for technological excellence (“우수기술기업”).

What appears on a patent certificate?

It lists the invention’s title, patent number, filing date, registration date and patent holder. For example, the certificate for Patent No. 10-2841768 lists the invention “소금 제조장치” (salt manufacturing equipment), a filing date of 2022-09-02 and a registration date of 2025-07-30.

Certification is obtained separately

A patent records how something is made. Testing and certification address different questions.
